Find My AirPods Case: How to Find a Lost Case

The AirPods are in your ears, but where is the case? With AirPods Pro 2 or Pro 3, AirPods 4 with ANC, or AirPods 5 with the wireless case, Apple's Find My can show the case on its own and play a sound from it. Other cases can't be located separately, so you start from where your AirPods last connected and search nearby.

How to Find Your AirPods Case

1. Check Apple's Find My

Open Find My, tap Devices and select your AirPods. On AirPods Pro 2, Pro 3, AirPods 4 (ANC) and AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, the case has its own pin and a Play Sound option.

2. Go to the Last Location

If your case has no pin of its own, the map shows where your AirPods last connected. Go there and retrace your steps: pockets, bags, car seats and the desk where you last charged them.

3. Scan Nearby with FindMy

Open FindMy and walk slowly. Cases with a built-in Find My speaker broadcast Bluetooth even when empty, and AirPods out of the case broadcast too. Watch the signal rise as you get closer.

Which AirPods Cases Can Be Found?

AirPods Pro 2 and Pro 3

The case shows on the Find My map by itself, plays a sound from its speaker, and supports precise finding with a UWB-capable iPhone. That covers both the Lightning and USB-C AirPods Pro 2 cases.

AirPods 4 (ANC) and AirPods 5 Wireless

The AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation case and the AirPods 5 Wireless Charging Case show up separately on the map and can play a sound. There is no precise finding for these cases.

AirPods 1–3, Pro 1, Standard AirPods 4 and 5

These cases have no Find My speaker, and Apple doesn't list separate case location for them. Find My locates the AirPods themselves, so if they were in the case, their last location is your best lead.

If Find My can't locate the case, Apple sells replacement charging cases that you pair with your existing AirPods. Check lost property at places you visited before you order one.

Where AirPods Cases Usually End Up

Coat and Jacket Pockets

Check every jacket you wore in the last 48 hours -- inside pockets, chest pockets, and the small zippered ones. Walk past each coat while FindMy is open.

Bag Compartments

Backpacks, gym bags, and laptop sleeves swallow cases. Unzip every compartment and hold your phone close so the signal can spike.

Between Cushions and Under Furniture

Couch cushions, car seats, and bed frames are classic hiding spots. A small case slips into a gap and the signal leaks through the fabric.

Desks, Nightstands, and Counters

Cases blend into clutter. Sweep around chargers, behind monitors, and near the kitchen counter where you plugged in your phone.

Whether you can find a lost AirPods case depends on the model. Cases with a built-in Find My speaker show up in Apple's Find My on their own; the rest don't.

Can I find my AirPods case with Find My?

Yes, on AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4 (ANC) and AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case. Apple shows each AirPod and the case on the map, and you can play a sound on the case from the Find My app (not from iCloud.com). On AirPods Pro 2 and Pro 3, a UWB-capable iPhone can also find the case's precise location. Other models can't locate the case separately.

Can I find my AirPods 4 case?

Only on AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. Its case has a speaker for Find My and shows up on its own. The standard AirPods 4 case doesn't, so Find My can only show the AirPods.

I lost my AirPods but I have the case. How do I find them?

Open Find My and select your AirPods. On most models you see only one AirPod at a time when they're separated: find that one, put it back in the case, then refresh the map to locate the other. You can play a sound on AirPods that are out of the case and within range.

What if my AirPods case is dead or out of range?

Find My may show the last known location, "No location found" or "Offline", and notifies you if the AirPods come back online. You can get directions to a last known location, but you can't play a sound or use Find Nearby. With the Find My network on, AirPods 3, AirPods 4 (ANC), AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max can show a location for up to 24 hours after they last connect to your device.

Can I buy just a replacement AirPods case?

Yes. Apple says that if you lose your case, you can order a replacement and pair it with your existing AirPods.
