Find Your Lost AirPods with Bluetooth
Dropped an AirPod between couch cushions? Left your case at a coffee shop? FindMy uses Bluetooth signal strength to guide you directly to your AirPods -- even when they are inside the charging case.

AirPods are unusual among Bluetooth devices because each earbud is its own independent radio. The left and right buds advertise on separate Bluetooth addresses, which is why FindMy can show one earbud as findable while the other is silent inside the case. That detail matters in practice: the most common AirPod-loss scenario is a single bud falling out somewhere between the case and your ears — and that single bud is what you need to triangulate, not the case.
The case itself is silent on every Lightning-port AirPods model (AirPods 1, 2, 3, and Pro 1). Only two cases broadcast on their own: the AirPods Pro 2 USB-C case and the AirPods 4 with ANC case, both of which include an integrated speaker for the native Find My experience and emit a low-power BLE advertisement even when empty. If you've lost an older case but the earbuds are inside, FindMy will pick up the buds; if you've lost an older case empty, no Bluetooth scanner can help.
Battery behaviour is also predictable. A bud sitting outside the case advertises continuously and burns through its charge in 4–6 hours. A bud back in the case stops broadcasting within about 30 seconds (the case puts it into deep sleep). If you're searching the next morning for buds you last saw the previous evening, open the case lid where you suspect they are — the moment the bud leaves the closed lid environment, even briefly, FindMy will see it.
How to Find Lost AirPods
1. Open & Scan
Launch FindMy and it automatically detects all nearby Bluetooth devices, including your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max.
2. Follow the Signal
Use the precision radar to walk toward your AirPods. The signal bar grows stronger as you get closer, guiding you step by step.
3. Play a Sound
Once you are close, trigger an audible alert on your AirPods so you can pinpoint them even if they are hidden under furniture or in a bag.
Why FindMy Is the Best AirPods Finder
Works with Every AirPods Model
AirPods 1st-4th gen, AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max are all detected automatically via Bluetooth. No pairing or setup needed.
Find AirPods in the Case
Unlike other tools, FindMy can detect the Bluetooth signal from the charging case itself, so you can locate AirPods even when they are stored away.
Precision Radar View
A real-time signal strength meter shows how close you are to your AirPods. Walk around and watch the signal peak when you are right on top of them.
Disconnect Alerts
Get notified the moment your AirPods go out of Bluetooth range so you never leave them behind again. Prevention is better than searching.

AirPods are tricky because each earbud is its own Bluetooth device and only advertises when outside the case. FindMy scans constantly, so the moment an earbud leaves the case and goes back into range it shows up again — useful when you are retracing steps in a house or car.
Can FindMy locate a single lost AirPod?
Yes. Each AirPod advertises Bluetooth independently when it is outside the case. If one earbud is missing but the other is in the case, FindMy will only pick up the one that is out.
Does FindMy work on AirPods Max?
Yes. AirPods Max emit Bluetooth whenever they are not in the smart case with a magnet engaged. Because the smart case does not fully power them down, they often still appear in FindMy for hours after being set aside.
Why can I see my AirPods in FindMy but not hear the sound?
If the AirPods are sealed inside a bag, a closed drawer, or under thick cushions, the sound will be muffled even though Bluetooth still reaches your phone. Move closer until the signal peaks, then play the sound.
Can I find AirPods that were last seen in a different city?
No. FindMy is a live Bluetooth scanner with roughly 10-30 meter range. For out-of-range cases, use Apple's own Find My network, which relies on other iPhones nearby to relay the last known location.
Will FindMy show AirPods that are paired to someone else's iPhone?
Yes. The Bluetooth advertising packet is public — it does not depend on which iPhone the AirPods are paired to. So you can locate someone else's AirPods if you are physically near them, which also means anyone scanning nearby could see yours. The MAC address rotates frequently to prevent persistent tracking.
How accurate is the AirPods location compared to AirTag?
AirTags use UWB (ultra-wideband) for sub-meter precision direction-finding. AirPods rely on Bluetooth RSSI, which is accurate to about 0.5–1 meter once you are right next to them. For the last few steps of a search, AirTag is more precise — but FindMy works on AirPods that don't have UWB (any model before AirPods Pro 2 USB-C).
